Pericardiectomy/Pericardial Stripping

Pericardiectomy may be considered when constrictive pericarditis leads to persistent signs of congestion, limited activity, and imaging and hemodynamic evidence suggests restricted ventricular filling, and when medication or drainage is difficult to control. The decision is usually determined by a specialist team assessment, considering factors such as the disease stage (acute/chronic), the degree of pericardial thickening and calcification, previous treatment response, liver and kidney function, and nutritional status.
