Excision + Amniotic Membrane Transplantation
Amniotic membrane transplantation may be considered when the pterygium is large, recurrent, or requires ocular surface reconstruction, and the autologous conjunctival donor area is limited, or the conjunctiva needs to be reserved for future surgery. The decision is based on the extent and activity of the lesion, whether dry eye/scarring coexists, the degree of corneal involvement, whether other ocular surface procedures are required, and overall anesthesia assessment. The final decision is made based on a specialist consultation.
