Percutaneous PFO Closure
Percutaneous closure may be considered when there is cryptogenic ischemic stroke or transient ischemic attack (TIA) assessed to be related to patent foramen ovale (PFO), and the shunt volume or anatomy is considered high risk. The decision is based on a comprehensive assessment of age, stroke etiology, response to previous antithrombotic therapy, cardiac structure and shunt evaluation, and device and access compatibility, as determined by a multidisciplinary team.
