ASD Transcatheter Closure

Occlusion can be considered when an atrial septal defect leads to significant left-to-right shunt, increased cardiac chamber volume load, decreased exercise tolerance, or recurrent respiratory symptoms. The decision is usually based on ultrasound assessment of defect type and edge conditions, pulmonary circulation pressure, age and weight, previous treatment response, and whether it is compatible with available devices, and is comprehensively determined by the cardiac team.
